Eastern Refinishing - Refinishing Service Review from New York, New York

A terrible, lousy, unprofessional, one! The worst! After doing an awful job, and without a high gloss finish (as promised), I ended up with a finish that looked like orange peel in white. After refusing to pay them until the problems were resolved, the technician, by phone and at the advice of the arrogant, wise *** owner, poured *** into the bathtub to damage it even further! I could not believe it! I noticed this only after he came out of the bathroom. When I called the owner, Charlie, all I got was his belligerent big mouth and accusing me of being a racist. I didn't know that I could have called the police on the technician for causing damage to my property until after he left. I would never recommend this company or any of the branches. All techs at different locations are independent contractors, under one big phoney umbrella When reglazing or refinishing your bathroom, ASK IF THEY HAVE ANY AFFILIATION WITH EASTERN REFINISHING. If so, STAY AWAY! Another thing, this company is NOT accredited by the Better Business Bureau (BBB). This is a Canadian based company! The BBB is US based company having no accreditation over foreign companies.

Do not use Eastern Refinishing

Work was scheduled and canceled twice over the course of 5 weeks with excuses like "family emergency" and "worker has conflict with child's school activity"; third appointment "wasn't on their calendar." Asked repeatedly "who did you speak to?" and when I said it was he, the owner, he was extremely rude. He asked if being upset about having tub resurfaced was "on par with cancer." Extremely sarcastic owner (Charlie) who tried to put onus on cancelations and rescheduling snafus on me, using bad language while insulting me. Made no reasonable attempt to remediate the situation. I would avoid this company like the plague; I will make sure to describe my experience with Eastern Refinishing on as many social media sites as possible.

TERRIBLE TERRIBLE COMPANY!!! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!

I had my tub refinished prior to these cons doing it!

It lasted almost 10 years without a bubble or scratch. These cons did it in September...the tub was never used until December.....by February 1st- it was peeling and bubbling!!!! After numerous calls and numerous cancellations to repair, they finally show up at the end of March. ....but only after constant harrasment that we must have damaged it and we would have to pay for it....WHAT???

THEY LEFT WITHOUT REPAIR......stating it would cost $75 and they refuse to come back! 2 months of a clean, responsible use and you are telling me its my fault! Like I said- 10 years I went with my last refinishing- NO ISSUES!

THIS *** *** company has no warranty!!!!!! their shotty *** refinishers are no where close to the area that they do the work , THEY LIVE IN DIFFERENT STATES,

in SSSSOOOOO they have no intention of "GUARANTeeing the warranty" because THEY WANT PAID FOR EXCESSIVE TRAVEL!!!

so, ADAM FISHER just texted me and said that I CAN *** OFF!

this is after his boss just called my husband a *** They do not support the military.....THEY ARE TERRIBLE PREJUDICE PEOPLE

Dishonest and Poorly Organized

Set up an appointment at a rental property to have the bathtub basin repaired. They did not show up on time despite my tenant taking time off from work to accommodate, tried to blame it on me, and when I told them it needed to be taken care of immediately because the only shower in the house, was told "well you're f-ed..aren't you". If you hire these people after reading this you are a fool. This is quite possibly the worst company I have ever done business with. I am not one to take to the web to complain, but these guys deserve it.

5 year warranty is worthless. They won't honor peeling from their work

Installer forgot that there was supposed to be a non slip mat installed under the refinish after putting on an initial coat so he put the mat down and sprayed another coat. Things worked fine for 4 years 7 months and then started peeling around side of mat on bottom. Then it got worse and mat peeled off. Charlie said he wanted to see pictures before talking about scheduling work. After sending him pictures he said "1. The tub has been destroyed due to; I don't know what. 2. This kind of damage is NOT covered.

3. The tub will probably need to be stripped.

4. You are looking at about $200 to strip and redo it."

I called SOMEONE ELSE to do redo that tub and another tub that needed work. They are all about same price and offer 5 year warranty.

I didn't even have anything done by this company, and I am beyond frustrated and angry. Now I'm thinking it was a blessing in disguise.

First I had to have a lengthy discussion with the now retired owner, Charlie Gayler about everything under the sun not related to getting an estimate. Then a very nice Greg Fowler shows up, pretending to give us an estimate. We never heard from him again. Repeated calls to the new owner, Tom Cavileer we met with repeated promises of follow up calls back to me.

I've dealt with contractors like this, who blow you off without a call or estimate.

But I never expected this from a COMPANY.

This place SUCKS. Count yourself lucky if you've read this first before deciding to use them.

They are just a dispatcher for various independent contractors. If anything goes wrong.

The Absolute Worst. No quality control, they will not help you. I told them that the job was completely unsatisfactory. After days of leaving messages, no help. They took my money, promised a warranty of 5 years on the work. 3 months later, the bathtub was peeling again. I have been trying to get them back to redo the work for the past 5 months! No one returns calls, they send you to the technician who then send you back to the "scheduling department". I filled a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission to get my money back and try to get a reputable company to do the work... Run, run, run.... http://www.easternrefinishing.net/Baltimore.htm

APPOINTMENT SET. NO CALL, NO SHOW

We had an appointment set for tub reglazing. Half hour late we called and were told by Charley he had no idea where his technician was and he would call him. Charley said his phone was busy and that he was probably calling us so if we found out what was going on to call him back and that was the end of that. We tried calling back several times and there was no answer. No service was received. We don't feel Eastern would care or if it matters to them about their lousy customer service. Thanks for absolutely nothing Charley but a waste of time.

If you have not already paid them, consider yourself luck and just find someone else to do the job. And post reviews on YELP too. More people will see it.

Poor quality job -- worse service

I had 2 tubs refinished and the job was not satisfactory and the company discouraged me from holding them to the warranty. In January 2013 we had 2 bath tubs in our home refinished or "glazed" by this company. The originally job was to be textured. But the texture was too rough--I and my children could not event comfortably sit in the tub. I asked that they come and fix it. After 3-5 months they came back. The worker showed up to my home 6 hours late. Then he simply sanded the bottom of the tub. He did not remove and re-glaze or even apply a new layer of glaze to the bottom of the tub. The exposed grit was porous and hard to keep clean and also gray (the tub should have been white). After about 6-8 months I noticed that the glaze around the drain was peeling. I asked that they come back to repair and also to fix the exposed grit. At that time the worker sanded and applied another layer of glaze. Now, a few months later, I noticed a bubble in the tub. When I ran my hand across it, a layer of glaze began to peel away. When I called to speak to him (Charlie), he told me that I should call back in March because they didn't have anyone in my area who could do the work. He would not schedule an appointment citing that the economy was unpredictable and that he didn't even know if someone would be available then. Then he suggested that this was my fault because I had them "screw with the finish a few times." I guess by asking them to screw with the finish they mean holding them to their guarantee and expecting a quality product for almost $1200. Waiting until March (3+ months away), providing of course that the economy holds up (insert eye roll here) is crazy. Sending a guy out here to do the work even though it will cost them money is the price of doing business. Perhaps had they done the job right the first or second or third time then they wouldn't need to come out here at all. The peeling layer of glaze is going to clog my tub and provide a breeding ground for mildew and bacteria. I would not recommend this company to anyone. Ever. Even if I didn't like them.

Was harassed by Charles gaylor for over 5 says straight

so unfortunately some so called "business owners " truly are not or should not be able too run a business. Charles gaylor is the most unprofessional craziest person I've ever interacted with! this so called business owner runs several illegal and unlicensed business. I've spoke with a district court in new Jersey who has posted several court dates charles gaylor has against him. unfortunately these scam artists will not be caught without your complaints. he has multiple so called "businesses" all over the country but his home base is Canada. smart fraudulent scam artists do this too ensure they can get away with anything! I've recently contacted other customers who have dealt with him.and none have been nice. it ends with the customer telling me once a botched hob is done he turns his back. not only does he refuse too fix his problems but he then harasses you (you would think he wouldn't have the time too call you nonstop because he says he's super busy running a "business) he tries too go as far as to.threatene people and scare them. no scaring me, I will make it a priority too ensure everyone knows too be aware of his un business like reputation! please be aware of who you hire and always ask for a business lisence and so forth.

Eastern Refinishing extremely poor customer service

Eastern Refinishing, a company contacted over the Internet, with a phone number of 800-463-****, refinished my tub area in April. In doing so, they failed to remove the shower fixtures - meaning that the area behind the handles were not refinished. In July, I replaced the fixture and noticed the problem. When I called Eastern Refinishing, and suggested that they send a technician to correct the issue, the contact became indignant and hung up the phone. The technician should have removed the tub/shower fixtures before completing the job in April. I'd advise everyone to avoid this company. http://www.easternrefinishing.net/

I agree with you. I had my tub and bethroom tile redone with these guys.

They did not remove anything.

3 years later my entire tub is chipping and peeling all over the place. I do remember talking to the customer rep and the phone; very arrogant man.

This company still owes us money, It has been a month now and we still have not recieved it. They also showed.up on the wrong day to fix our tub.

Chatlie referred to me as a crazy lady because i called several times asking for.the money.they still owr us.

Extremely unprofessional business. Woukd not recommend to anyone

This company is so bad...everyone STAY AWAY! Ignore Charlie's comments where he is trying to justify his actions.

He is rude and a cheat. He won't' be in business much longer.

We recently had a tub refinished by an Eastern Refinishing subcontractor and are less than happy with the quality of the job - and we haven't even used the tub yet!

All of the new fixtures and furniture in the bathroom are now coated with a fine layer of recoating spray. We have a dark tile floor and had to scrub visible white spray drift off the floor in several spots.

Some of the cleaning/etching solution was spilled onto the new floor tile which has discolored the dark color with white "etch" stains. We will now have to remove and replace several tiles to fix the floor.

We feel that these issues could have been avoided if the technician had taken time to protect the surfaces in our obviously newly remodeled bathroom.

this is a copy of a letter i sent to the company after i had the pleasure of speaking with charlie. his social skills are limited and i just wish i had read these reviews prior to my mother calling this company for a tub refinish.

Jennifer.

Hello. My name is *************. My mother, ***********, has been corresponding with you regarding the work she was having done. I am concerned that you are not aware of the quality of workers that you are subcontracting.

After you resolved with my mother that another technician would arrive to repair, what was not done correctly, they still sent the same person back.

He came by and discussed with my mother, what was not completed. Mentioned that they charge more for that but agreed to finish the job. He left and after awhile she received a phone call from 'the owner' of the company. She was under the assumption that he was calling to find out if she was happy with the finished work. (b/c she was), but he was calling to complain and scold her.

He began the call by telling her that his tech just left and said that she wasted their time by making his tech drive two hours and cost them 90 dollars. She was put back, because the tech had left some time ago, and said 'you are a bunch of liars'. THIS IS ALL SHE SAID. As she started talking to try to explain that the tech left awhile ago and finished the job, he interrupted her and wouldn't let her get a word in. He proceeded by telling her that he didn't want to hear from her again and was obviously angered by what she said b/c he said 'well Ms. Berger, your an angry old c***'. She was floored. She works with a lot of men and rebutted with a comment about his ***.

I do not condone her comment...but I would probably have a similar response.

When I returned home, that evening, I called him back. As soon as I tried to speak he accused me of harassing him. He claims that my mother has been harassing him because she has a screw loose and now that I called, I was as well. I tried to calm him by telling him that it was my turn to speak because I gave him that respect, he just kept talking over me. He claims he never swore at my mother. I assure you, that she is not a story teller. When I told him I did not believe him...he threatened me with a harassment suit and I returned the threat of calling his superior (which he claims, he owns the company and answers to no one) and calling the BBB, Angie's List, and whatever other company to let them know how unprofessional he is.

She is fine with the work. She is happy it is done and over with.

I AM DISTURBED BY THIS MAN AND HIS UNPROFESSIONAL BEHAVIOR. ...AND SERIOUSLY HOPE THAT YOU RETHINK DOING BUSINESS WITH HIM.

THANK YOU

Guest

A couple of years ago I received a quote from Charlie and when they came they wanted to up the price. I ended up telling them to leave.

Charlie was rude when I spoke with him and harrassed me with calls and e-mails. Stay away from this company!!!!!!

Guest

Charlie is an aboslute joke. We experienced the same exact issue with not removing the fixtures.

Our fixtures were brand new and were completely ruined by the chemicals. The paint job was also terrible and chipping in many spots from Day 1. Charlie told us on 3 different occassions that someone would be over to fix the problem. We took afternoons off of work to meet the painter and no one ever showed.

You can read countless complaints like this on countless websties and Charlie says all the customers are "crazy" and have "attitude." The only crazy person in this situation is Charlie. He is a thief and a ***-artist. Charlie has no aspirations to complete jobs in the first place...

It's a complete scam and your check is cashed within hours of the worker leaving your home. Do not use this company they are based out of Canada so they can not be reported to the Better Business Bureau or authorities in the U.S.

One year ago I called Eastern Refinishing in order to glaze my bathroom. I paid $1,100.00 which included a 5 year written guarantee.

Only one month after the initial job the peeling started. They did come back then to redo the initial spots that were peeling. The peeling has since spread around the room: first the bathtub, then walls. I spoke to a “Charlie” at Eastern Refinishing this week and it wasn’t a pleasant conversation. He said they would charge $150 in order to provide repair.

If you would like any additional information including pictures in order to make your decision, please e-mail me rgcastilho@***.com, My hope is to have this company provide the service and quality to me that they advertized and also to alert other consumers of my problem.

If you plan on replacing your fixtures on your existing bathtub walls, I suggest you let the refinisher know before he starts because telling him 3 months later; after he has done your tub does little to help the situation.

As a matter of course nothing is removed unless it must be and reading a customers mind is not what we do. Should we now ask every customer if they are ever planning to change their fixtures?

No-one takes fixtures off unless absolutley necessary. If you do you open yourself up to "7 things can happen and 6 of them are bad".

Blaming us is not the answer as we cannot predict what a customer will do after we leave the jobsite.

I remember this customer and his attitude of blaming us. He was very unpleasant from the beginning. I really had no answer for him other than to schedule one of the guys to take a look at it but he hung up before we got that far. We will not go back to this crazy persons home under any conditions.
